Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and printmaker. He is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He co-founded Cubism, a style that shows objects from many angles at once. He made over 50,000 artworks in his lifetime. His painting "Seated Woman" (1953) is an example of his Cubist style.
Why it matters
Picasso changed the way people think about art. He showed that art doesn't have to look realistic to be powerful. His ideas influenced many other artists and styles.
