The Blue Period is the name for Pablo Picasso's paintings from 1901 to 1904. During these years, Picasso was very sad because his friend Carlos Casagemas had died. He used mostly blue, blue-green, and sometimes gray colors. He painted poor people, blind people, beggars, and sad women. The paintings feel lonely and quiet. "Head of a Woman" is a Blue Period painting from 1903.
