What is it?
Hinduism is a major religion that started in India thousands of years ago. Hindus believe in many gods and goddesses, but the three main ones are Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer). Shiva as Nataraja is a famous form. Hindus also believe in karma (your actions affect your future) and reincarnation (being born again after death). The Nataraja statue you captured is a Hindu religious object. It was used in temples for worship and meditation.
Why it matters
Hinduism has shaped the culture and art of India for millennia. Many beautiful sculptures and temples are dedicated to Hindu gods. Understanding Hinduism helps you understand a large part of world art and culture.
