Ceramic Molding
A technique where clay is pressed into a mold to create a shape, then fired to make it hard.
What is it?
Ceramic molding is a way to make many identical objects quickly. The artist presses soft clay into a mold (a hollow form), then removes it and lets it dry. The piece is then fired in a kiln. This technique was used to make the shabti figures you captured. The Egyptians used molds to produce large numbers of shabtis. After firing, they sometimes painted them with colored glazes.
Why it matters
Ceramic molding allowed mass production of objects like shabtis, making them affordable for many people. It is still used today to make dishes, tiles, and figurines.
