George Washington (1732–1799) was an American military officer, statesman, and Founding Father. He served as the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He later became the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797. He is often called the "Father of His Country." Many artists painted his portrait, including Rembrandt Peale. Washington is known for his leadership, honesty, and strength.
