What is it?
Canaletto (1697–1768) was a Venetian painter. His real name was Giovanni Antonio Canal. He is best known for his vedute — detailed city views — of Venice. He painted the Grand Canal, St. Mark's Square, and other famous places. His paintings were very popular with British tourists on the Grand Tour. Many of his works are now in British museums. The child's reflection describes a painting of the Grand Canal that is likely by Canaletto or his school. Canaletto used a camera obscura to achieve accurate perspective.
