What is it?
Egg coloration is the color and pattern of a bird's eggs. Most bird eggs are brown or speckled to blend in with the nest. But the Elegant Crested Tinamou lays bright jade-green eggs. Scientists think the green color might help the eggs stay hidden in the grassy nest, or it might signal to the male that the eggs are healthy. Other birds with colorful eggs include the American Robin (blue) and some ducks (green).
