Free time when people relax, play, or do things they enjoy.
What is it?
Leisure is time spent not working. People use leisure to rest, have fun, or do hobbies. In art, leisure scenes often show people at the beach, in parks, or playing games. Matisse's "Bathers with a Turtle" shows a leisure activity — bathing and playing with a turtle. Many artists paint leisure because it shows happiness and freedom.
Why it matters
Leisure art helps us see how people in different times and places enjoyed themselves. It also reminds us to take time to relax.
