What is it?
Sculpture is a type of art where you shape materials into figures or objects. You can carve (cut away) or model (add material). The objects in the studiolo, like inkwells and containers, were often sculpted from bronze or terracotta. They were both useful and beautiful. The exhibition showed sculptures made by bronze casters and potters.
Why it matters
Sculpture has been around for thousands of years. It can show people, animals, or abstract shapes. Many sculptures are made to honor important people or to decorate buildings.
