Art Nouveau
An art style from the late 1800s to early 1900s that used natural shapes like flowers, vines, and curved lines.
What is it?
Art Nouveau means "new art" in French. It started in Europe around 1890 and lasted until about 1910. Artists wanted to make art that was part of everyday life. They used flowing lines, plant shapes, and beautiful colors. The style was used in buildings, furniture, jewelry, and even fireplaces. The Rhead fireplace you captured is a great example: the tiles have nature patterns and curved lines.
Why it matters
Art Nouveau was a big change in art. It showed that even useful things like a fireplace could be beautiful. Many artists today still use ideas from Art Nouveau.
