Provence is a region in southeastern France, next to the Mediterranean Sea. It has a warm climate, with lots of sunshine. The countryside has rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, and fields of lavender. Many artists, including Vincent van Gogh, loved to paint in Provence because of the bright light and vibrant colors. Van Gogh lived in Arles and Saint-Rémy, both in Provence, and painted many famous works there, including "Wheat Field with Cypresses."
