What is it?
The Congo Basin is a huge area of tropical rainforest in central Africa. It covers parts of countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, and Gabon. It is the second largest rainforest in the world after the Amazon. The Congo River flows through it. The climate is hot and humid with lots of rain all year. The Congo Peafowl lives in the lowland rainforests of this basin.
Why it matters
The Congo Basin is home to many unique animals and plants, including the Congo Peafowl, forest elephants, and gorillas. It also helps regulate the Earth's climate by absorbing carbon dioxide. Protecting this rainforest is important for the whole planet.
