What is it?
Vocalization is when an animal makes a sound to send a message. Animals use vocalizations to warn others, attract mates, or defend territory. The Western Lesser Siren can make barking and clicking sounds. It uses these sounds to defend its territory or communicate with other sirens. Many animals, like birds, frogs, and whales, also use vocalizations.
Why it matters
Vocalizations help animals survive and interact. Studying them helps us understand animal behavior and communication.
