Saint Lawrence
A Christian saint from the 200s AD who was a deacon in Rome and is known for his charity.
What is it?
Saint Lawrence was a Christian deacon in Rome around 258 AD. He was in charge of the church's treasures. When the Roman emperor asked him to hand over the church's wealth, Lawrence brought the poor and sick people and said they were the true treasure. This story is shown in the painting by Bernardo Strozzi. Lawrence was later martyred for his faith.
