Evolution
The process by which living things change over many generations to survive better.
What is it?
Evolution is how species change over time. Small differences help some animals survive longer and have more babies. Those helpful traits get passed on. Over millions of years, leaf insects evolved to look like leaves because the ones that looked most like leaves were not eaten. This is called natural selection.
Why it matters
Evolution explains why there are so many different kinds of life. It helps us understand how animals are related and how they adapted to their environments.
