Sulawesi
An island in Indonesia shaped like a starfish, home to many unique animals like the Babirusa.
What is it?
Sulawesi is one of the largest islands in Indonesia. It has a very unusual shape, like a starfish or the letter K. It has many different habitats: rainforests, mountains, and coral reefs. Because of its long isolation, many animals live only here, including the Babirusa, the maleo bird, and the anoa (a tiny buffalo).
Why it matters
Sulawesi is a biodiversity hotspot. Many species are found nowhere else on Earth. Protecting its forests and reefs is important for global conservation.
