What is it?
The Gran Chaco is a large region covering parts of Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia. It has dry forests, shrublands, and grasslands. It is very hot in summer and cooler in winter. The Chacoan peccary lives here, along with other animals like armadillos and giant anteaters. The region is threatened by farming and ranching. You learned that the Chacoan peccary was thought extinct until rediscovered in the 1970s, highlighting the importance of this habitat.
Why it matters
The Gran Chaco is one of the most biodiverse places in South America. It is home to many species found nowhere else. Protecting it is important for conservation.
