A region in China with mountains and forests, home to the Chinese crocodile lizard.
What is it?
Southeastern China includes provinces like Fujian, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi. It has a subtropical climate with evergreen forests and bamboo forests. The Daxiangshan mountains in this region are one of the few places where the Chinese crocodile lizard lives. The lizard prefers clear, slow-moving shallow pools in secondary evergreen forests and bamboo forests.
Why it matters
This region has unique wildlife that is found nowhere else. Protecting its forests helps save endangered species like the Chinese crocodile lizard.
