Central Asia
A region in Asia with large deserts and grasslands, home to the Bactrian camel.
What is it?
Central Asia is a region that includes countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, and parts of China. It has vast deserts like the Gobi Desert and the Taklamakan Desert, as well as steppes and mountains. The Bactrian camel lives in the deserts of this region, especially in Mongolia and China. Other animals include the snow leopard, Przewalski's horse, and the saiga antelope.
Why it matters
Central Asia has unique wildlife adapted to extreme environments. Many species are endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. Protecting this region is important for conservation.
