What is it?
Louis IX was the King of France from 1226 to 1270. He was a very religious man and was known for his justice. He led two crusades to the Holy Land. After his death, the Catholic Church made him a saint, so he is also called Saint Louis.

Louis IX is remembered as a model Christian king. His life shows how religion and politics were connected in the Middle Ages. Many statues and artworks were made to honor him.
