Skin Secretion
A liquid that comes out of an animal's skin to protect it.
What is it?
Some animals release a substance from their skin when they are scared or attacked. This liquid can taste bad, smell bad, or be poisonous. The tomato frog secretes a white sticky substance from its skin when it is captured. This helps protect it from predators.
Why it matters
Skin secretions are a defensive adaptation that helps animals survive. They can deter predators and give the animal a chance to escape.
