Microscope
A tool that makes tiny things look bigger so you can see them.
What is it?
A microscope uses lenses to magnify small objects. The first microscopes were made in the 1600s. By the 1700s, they were used by scientists to study cells, insects, and other tiny things. The microscope kit you saw is from France, around 1780. It has a brass tube and glass lenses. You look through the eyepiece and adjust the focus to see clearly.
Why it matters
Microscopes let us see a world that is invisible to our eyes. They helped discover germs, cells, and how diseases spread. Without microscopes, we wouldn't understand how our bodies work or how to cure many illnesses.
