What is it?
An inflorescence is a cluster of flowers on a plant. Instead of one flower, many small flowers grow together. The colorful part of a bromeliad is actually an inflorescence made of many tiny flowers. Inflorescences can be different shapes: spikes, umbels, or heads. They help plants attract pollinators more effectively.
Why it matters
Understanding inflorescences helps you identify plants. Many plants we think have one flower actually have many small ones. This is important for pollination and seed production.
