A building made of glass or plastic where plants are grown in a controlled environment.
What is it?
A greenhouse is a structure that lets sunlight in and keeps heat inside. It protects plants from cold weather and pests. People can control the temperature, humidity, and light inside. Many tropical plants, like the Habenaria hybrid orchid, are grown in greenhouses because they need warm and humid conditions.
Why it matters
Greenhouses allow us to grow plants that would not survive in our local climate. They are used for food production, research, and displaying exotic plants in museums and botanical gardens.
