Diana
The Roman goddess of hunting, the moon, and nature, equivalent to the Greek Artemis.
What is it?
Diana was a major goddess in ancient Rome. She was the daughter of Jupiter and Latona, and twin sister of Apollo. Like Artemis, she was shown with a bow and arrow, often hunting. She was also a protector of women and children. The child's reflection notes that the statue could represent either Artemis or Diana, showing the connection between Greek and Roman mythology. Another exhibit mentions a statue of Artemis/Diana running.
Why it matters
Diana shows how the Romans adopted Greek gods and gave them new names. Her statues and temples were important in Roman culture.
