Bird Call
The sounds birds make to communicate with each other.
What is it?
A bird call is a sound that birds make. They use calls to warn others of danger, to find each other, or to mark their territory. The superb starling can mimic the calls of other birds. Each bird species has its own unique call. The Magnificent Ground Pigeon has a very special call: a loud, far-carrying "wu-huwoooaaa" that rises and falls in pitch and fades at the end.
Why it matters
Bird calls help scientists identify species and study bird behavior. They also help birds survive by keeping in touch with each other.
