What is it?
Arboreal animals spend most of their time in trees. They have special adaptations for climbing, like strong limbs, claws, or tails that can grab. The black tree monitor is arboreal: it lives in the forests of the Aru Islands and climbs trees to hunt and rest. Other arboreal animals include monkeys, sloths, and many birds.
Why it matters
Arboreal animals are important for forest ecosystems. They help spread seeds and control insect populations.
