Traditional Chinese Medicine
An ancient system of healing from China that uses herbs, acupuncture, and other methods to keep the body healthy.
What is it?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a way of treating illness that has been used in China for over 2,000 years. It includes herbal medicines, acupuncture, massage, and exercises like tai chi. TCM focuses on balancing the body's energy, called qi. The Senna seeds you learned about are used in TCM to help digestion and clean the liver. Luffa is also used in TCM: it is believed to clear heat, stop cough, and promote blood circulation. The dried luffa sponge can be used to make a tea for these purposes.
Why it matters
TCM is still widely used today, both in China and around the world. It offers natural treatments for many health problems. Understanding TCM helps us see how different cultures approach health and healing.
