The renewed interest in ancient Greek and Roman culture that happened during the Renaissance.
What is it?
During the Renaissance, people in Europe became very interested in the art, literature, and ideas of ancient Greece and Rome. They studied old texts, copied ancient sculptures, and built buildings inspired by Roman temples. This revival is called the Renaissance, which means "rebirth." The studiolo often contained objects that copied or were inspired by ancient Roman art.
Why it matters
The revival of antiquity changed art, architecture, and thinking. It led to new styles and ideas that we still admire today.
