Tapestry Weaving
A way of making cloth with pictures by weaving colored threads together on a loom.
What is it?
Tapestry weaving is a technique where an artist weaves colored threads (often wool, silk, or cotton) on a loom to create a picture or pattern. The threads are woven by hand, and the design is built up row by row. Tapestries can be very large and take many months to complete. They were used to decorate walls and tell stories. The King's Vision Tapestry was made using this technique.
Why it matters
Tapestry weaving was an important art form in medieval Europe. It allowed artists to create large, colorful scenes that could be moved from place to place. Tapestries also helped insulate cold stone walls.
