Roman Art
The art of ancient Rome, which was heavily influenced by Greek art but also added its own realism and engineering.
What is it?
Roman artists often copied Greek statues, but they also made realistic portraits and huge public buildings. They used concrete to build arches and domes. The Running Artemis statue could be a Roman copy of a Greek original. Romans admired Greek art and made many copies to decorate their homes and public spaces. The child's reflection notes that the statue could be either Greek or Roman.
Why it matters
Roman art spread Greek culture across the Roman Empire. Many Greek statues survive only because Romans made copies of them.
