Tropical America
The warm, rainy parts of Central and South America where many rainforest plants grow.
What is it?
Tropical America includes countries like Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and parts of Central America. It has large rainforests like the Amazon. Many houseplants, including the Prayer Plant, originally come from these forests. The Red Spiral Ginger (Costus woodsonii) also comes from this region, specifically from Central America and northern South America. It grows in lowland rainforests.
Why it matters
Tropical America is home to an amazing variety of plants and animals. Many of our common houseplants, like the Prayer Plant, originated there.
