What is it?
The Sonoran Desert is one of the four major deserts of North America, along with the Great Basin, Mojave, and Chihuahuan deserts. It covers parts of the southwestern United States (Arizona, California) and northwestern Mexico (Sonora, Baja California). It is known for its hot temperatures, little rainfall, and iconic saguaro cacti. Despite the harsh conditions, it supports a rich biodiversity, including reptiles like the San Esteban Island chuckwalla and the Gila monster. The Western Cottonmouth does not live in the Sonoran Desert; it lives in the southeastern United States.
