What is it?
The Lesser Sunda Islands are a group of islands in the Malay Archipelago, part of Indonesia. They include Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, and Timor, among others. The islands have tropical forests and open woodlands. The Timor python lives on the islands of Lombok, Adonara, Solor, and Flores.
Why it matters
The Lesser Sunda Islands have many endemic species found nowhere else. Protecting their habitats helps conserve unique animals like the Timor python.
