China and Mongolia (Gobi Desert)
A large desert region in northern China and southern Mongolia, home to the Bactrian Camel.
What is it?
The Gobi Desert is a vast, cold desert that stretches across northern China and southern Mongolia. It has extreme temperatures, very little rain, and strong winds. Despite the harsh conditions, some animals like the Bactrian Camel and the snow leopard live there. The Bactrian Camel is especially adapted to this environment, with its two humps storing fat and its ability to drink large amounts of water quickly.
Why it matters
The Gobi Desert is one of the last places where wild Bactrian Camels still roam. Protecting this habitat is crucial for saving this critically endangered species.
