What is it?
The Rococo period was a time of elegant, playful art and design. It started in France during the reign of King Louis XV. Rich people decorated their homes with gold, mirrors, and curved shapes. Artists painted scenes of love, nature, and fun. The style later spread to Germany, Italy, and other countries. By 1780, people began to prefer simpler styles like Neoclassicism. Why it matters
The Rococo period shows a time when art was all about pleasure and beauty. It was a reaction against the heavy, serious style of the earlier Baroque period.
