Saint Benedict
A Christian monk who lived around 480–547 AD and started the Benedictine order of monks.
What is it?
Saint Benedict was a holy man who lived in Italy a long time ago. He is famous for creating a set of rules for monks called the Rule of Saint Benedict. These rules told monks how to pray, work, and live together. Many stories say he performed miracles, like healing people and seeing visions. The painting you saw shows one of his miracles. He is often shown in art wearing a black monk's robe and sometimes holding a book or a staff.
