What do you see?

Style and technique
This painting is a perfect example of Neoplasticism, also called De Stijl. Mondrian believed that art should show the basic structure of the universe using only straight lines, right angles, and primary colors (red, blue, yellow) plus black and white. He used oil paint on canvas, but the surface is smooth and flat — no brushstrokes visible.
