What is it?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a way of treating illness that has been used in China for over 2,000 years. It includes herbal medicines, acupuncture, massage, and exercises like tai chi. TCM focuses on balancing the body's energy, called qi. The senna plant (决明子) is one of many herbs used in TCM. It is often used to clear heat from the liver and improve eyesight. Chrysanthemum flowers are also used in TCM to cool the body and help with headaches and eye problems. Luffa (丝瓜) is also used in TCM to clear heat, stop coughs, and help with lung problems.
Why it matters
TCM is still used today by millions of people. Many modern medicines come from plants that were first used in TCM. Learning about it helps us understand different ways of healing.
