The period when Egypt was a province of the Roman Empire, from 30 BCE to about 641 CE.
What is it?
After the death of Cleopatra, Egypt became part of the Roman Empire. During this time, Egyptian and Roman cultures mixed. People still followed Egyptian traditions like mummification, but they also adopted Roman styles in art and clothing. Mummy portraits from this period show people with Roman hairstyles and clothing, but the purpose was Egyptian: to preserve the person's identity for the afterlife.
