Post-Impressionism
An art movement from the late 1800s where artists used bright colors and bold shapes to express emotions.
What is it?
Post-Impressionism is an art movement that began in France around 1885. Artists like Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, and Georges Seurat were part of it. They wanted to go beyond Impressionism, which focused on light and everyday scenes. Post-Impressionists used strong colors, thick paint, and simple shapes to express feelings. Van Gogh's "Irises" is a great example — the flowers are not realistic, but they feel alive and energetic.
Why it matters
Post-Impressionism paved the way for modern art. It showed that art could be about the artist's inner world, not just the outside world.
