Perspective
A way of drawing or painting that makes flat pictures look three-dimensional and real.
What is it?
Perspective is a technique artists use to show depth on a flat surface. They make objects smaller as they get farther away, and lines seem to meet at a point on the horizon. This is called linear perspective. Giovanni Paolo Pannini was a master of perspective. In his painting of St. Peter's Basilica, the columns and arches get smaller as they go deeper into the picture, making the church look huge. Perspective helps artists create realistic scenes.
