"Orlando Furioso" ("The Frenzy of Orlando") is an epic poem by Ludovico Ariosto, first published in 1516. It continues the story of Orlando (Roland) from earlier poems. The poem is full of knights, damsels, monsters, and magic. One famous episode is about the knight Rinaldo and the enchantress Armida. Armida traps Rinaldo on a magical island, but he eventually escapes with the help of his friends to fulfill his duty. This story is shown in Vincent's painting "Petrarch and Ariosto."
