What is it?
A marine ecosystem is a place where plants and animals live in salt water. Oceans, seas, and coral reefs are marine ecosystems. Fish like sharks, rays, and clownfish live there. Plants like seaweed and algae grow there. The aquarium you saw might be a marine ecosystem.
Why it matters
Marine ecosystems cover most of Earth's surface. They produce oxygen and regulate climate. They are home to many species and provide food for people.
