Egg Incubation
Keeping eggs warm so they can hatch into babies.
What is it?
Egg incubation is when a parent bird or other animal sits on eggs to keep them at the right temperature. The Elegant Crested Tinamou has a special incubation style: the male sits on the eggs until they hatch. Many birds incubate eggs, but usually the mother does it. Some reptiles also incubate eggs by burying them in warm sand.
Why it matters
Incubation is important for the survival of many species. Without it, the eggs would get too cold and the babies would not develop. Studying incubation helps scientists understand animal behavior and evolution.
