Edible Plants
Plants that people can safely eat as food.
What is it?
Many plants have parts that are safe and tasty to eat. Some plants we eat the leaves (like lettuce), some the roots (like carrots), and some the flowers (like nasturtium). Edible flowers are used in salads, teas, and desserts. Nasturtium is one example — its flowers and leaves have a peppery taste. Luffa is another example — you eat the young fruit.
Why it matters
Knowing which plants are edible helps us enjoy nature's bounty safely. It also connects us to different cultures and their traditional foods.
